Marathon Man

I watched an episode of Eddie Izzard's Marathon Man last nights and was impressed by how much running its possible to do it such a short space of time; 43 marathons in 51 days. It make doing one marathon look a bit pathetic. Its certainly helped with the motivation. (maths: learnt about 'posterior likelihood' yesterday. This is when, using uniform priors the marginalised likelihood isn;t just a mean point estimate but is a distribution retaining the existing uncertainty.

Half way

I realised yesterday that I am now at half way in the training schedule. So 8 weeks left to go. The runs this week have not been too much fun. I went for a faster run in the week and a short run yesterday. My legs feel quite heavy at the moment. Hopefully this is just a half way dip and it'll pick up soon.

I also realised that the original idea was to have a running AND maths blog, but I haven't mentioned any maths yet. So this is what I've been thinking about this weekend.

I've read about the accelerated survival function and the differece with the proportional hazard function. Basically, it seems to me that these are just rescaling on different transformations of the same thing. So the ASF is S*=1/a S(t/a) and PHF is h*=b h(t).
I also wonder if anyone has applied that Approoximate Bayesian Computation idea to Discrete Event Simulations? If we want to infer the parameters of the graph but the data and so the likelihood is intractable then maybe this is the way to go. I think that it's actuallly sort of obvious but it making the link with this theory thats interesting. I'm also going in a course about new methods in Bayesian Classification tomorrow. Should be interesting!

half hour

more fartleking, more knackered. About 3 miles

longest run yet

2 hour run in to Chorlton water park. more enjoyable due to, not despite of the light rain. Fortunately my girlfriend nisha can help me dry off

Fartlek

35 minutes of fartlek. Should speed things up hopefully.

slow and another late goal from another set piece

4 mile run before the football. I know I wasn't going fast but I'm doing over a 9 minute mile. I think I'll have to up that pretty soon.

Week last Sunday, about 10 miles

Circuits and spinning yesterday. Tired but not sore today which I take as a good sign. Went for a biggish run on Friday for just under an hour. I think I'll do some weight tomorrow and then go for a jog on Thursday.

I feel ok about how the trainings going. I'm not sick of running yet and depending on which program you look at I'm doing ok. I think the key now is to start consistently upping the distance and I'm going to have to start thinking about eating/drinking during the runs.

I found the river near here on Friday, the transpennines way, so i reckon that'll be a pretty good route along that; as long as its light. Might give that a go at the end of the week.

Still haven't book the sports massage. I'll ring around tomorrow...
